Position Summary Information

Xcalibur, Inc. is hiring a research and evaluation assistant to add to our research and evaluation team.  We assist GEAR UP grantees across the country providing participatory evaluation support for State and Partnership GEAR UP grants.  In our role as external evaluators we provide grants with guidance and insight into promising practices preparing students to be college and career ready.  The research and evaluation assistant is expected to contribute in many ways to our ongoing research and evaluation projects. The research and evaluation assistant will work in close collaboration with Xcalibur’s Director of Evaluation and Research.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) or equivalent and minimum of 2-3 years (4-5 years preferred) of experience in the field of education or a related area
  • Knowledge of federal regulations on research and evaluation of human subjects
  • Evidence of research and evaluation ethics training
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

License/Certification Required: None

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Evidence of knowledge and experience with different research and evaluation methodologies, and the appropriate software
  • Ability to present complex information effectively to a range of audiences
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary work
  • Ability to work collaboratively and as part of a team
  • Commitment to high quality research and evaluation

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the assessment of grants’ capacity and impact through project analysis
  • Conduct literature reviews
  • Maintain an annotated bibliography of relevant research and evaluation to the include but not be limited to the fields of College and Career Readiness, College Access, Secondary and Postsecondary Education.
  • Assist with preparation of progress reports on research and evaluation projects
  • Assist in the collection, analysis, and review of qualitative and quantitative data
  • Compile and maintain research and evaluation documents, e.g., field notes, consent forms, interview protocols.
  • Transcribe recorded data, e.g., interviews, focus groups, team meetings
  • Assist in the design of surveys and interview and focus groups protocols
  • Follow up on studies that have been conducted
  • Contribute/assist with the writing and editing of research and evaluation results for distribution to clients and/or publication
  • Work independently on assigned research and evaluation tasks
  • Carryout any other duties within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job

Physical Demands of Position:

  • Light physical effort. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds or some standing or walking. Effort applies to no more than two (2) hours per day.
  • Work environment involves minimal to no exposure to physical risks, such as operating dangerous equipment or working with chemicals.

Type of Position: Part Time Position

Number of Hours Per Week:  10 – 15 hrs/week

Work Schedule/Hours: Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (must be able to meet with Director 2 days per week /3 hours per day)

Suggested Salary Range:  This position is part-time paid hourly at $18/hour.  As a part-time employee there are no further benefits made available at this time.
